The market sells four different types of perfumes. The manager
reports that the four different perfumes are equally popular.
Suppose that a sample of 100 purchases yields observed counts 30,
24, 22, and 24, for types 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively.
Use a 0.10 significance level to test the claim that the four types
are equally popular.
(a) Identify the appropriate hypothesis test and explain the reasons why it is appropriate for analyzing this data.
(b) Identify the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis.
(c) Find the test statistic (round two decimal places)
(d) Determine the p-value (round two decimal places)
(e) Compare p-value and significance level. What decision should be made regarding the null hypothesis (eg reject or fail to reject) and why?
(f) Is there sufficient evidence to support the claim that the four types are equally popular? Justify your answer.
