Elaborate different types of reports.
Reports refer to formal documents that contain information
presented in an organized manner and for a particular need and
group. Some of the important types of reports are as follows:
1. Formal reports refer to the report which is structured in an
organized manner and a formal language without much personally used
words. But informal reports are those which are created with short
type information and it is also in a casual language.
2. Short reports are mainly referred to the particular information
which is presented to a specific purpose and a particular group.
The long report refers to the report which provides the audience
clear cut information and it is a result of many days or weeks of
working hard.
3. Next is a kind of report it includes information about the
various objectives of an area. This report is passed to another
part of an organization. These are in the form of annual reports,
absenteeism, etc. This report can also be used as a measure to
solve problems by including some analytical techniques. This would
be done by making feasibility reports scientific research etc. 4.
Another one is in the form of an offer document which includes
details regarding the needs of another organization and measures to
meet that needs. The main users of this report are the advertising
agencies and governmental agencies. They demand their needs through
add requests and potential supplier organizations respond to it by
specifying their conditions.
5. Some reports follow a hierarchical path, and these reports are a
part of management control and are referred to as vertical
reports.
Another type of classification is Lateral reports. It is meant in
focusing the coordination within the organization. These reports
travel through the same levels within or among the
departments.
6. Reports which are meant to travel within the organization are
known as Internal Reports while those which are distributed outside
the organization are known as external reports.
7. Some reports have to be issued on a scheduled regular basis to
serve the management control and are known as Periodic Reports.
