If necessary, you may need to counsel individuals who continue to perform below expectations and implement the disciplinary process. Describe what you need to do.
If individuals continue to perform even after an intervention,
it means that there is either a problem of fit, psychological or
cognitive block, or even a lack of morale. Discipline, in this
case, would then be counterproductive because there is clearly
something major that’s affecting the individual’s ability to
perform their task appropriately. In this case, bringing them into
counsel them is the way to go. This can be done as a leader to
allow the individual to open up about their issues if there is
anything that we can do to enable them with a solution or to
relieve some of their burden we should try and do first. If the
individual shows a lack of morale and their performance is
continually not up to the mark, talking to them would let us
understand their behavior or even their attitude, which might not
be conducive to our style of management, in which case, we might
need to refer them to another supervisor or need to take stricter
measures.
