Why was the development of Prozac considered to be a seminal moment in the history of psychopharmacology? How is it designed to work?
It was also known as the Prozac revolution. The mechanism of action of Prozac is through the increase in the activity of the brain as it would be blocking serotonin reuptake, as a result of which there was an improvement in s Number of personality disorders. It was one of the first of the SSRI compounds. Prozac was so popular since SSRIs were not used earlier. Also, the anti depressants used except this had a number of side effects such as weight gain or dry mouth or blurred vision. The side effects of SSRIs were lesser, leading to its widespread use.

Neurotransmitters regulating mood are serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and GABA. These are regulated so as to improve the mood of a person, caused by imbalances in these compounds.

Concerns Are changes in the chemical structure of the brain as a result of which there would be nervousness or restlessness, along with reduction in the person’s se-xual desire. There might also be heart palpitations along with dry mouth and insomnia.
