Specifications are important part of a tender document. It is a detailed written document that declares materials and workmanship required for the job. It is different from the costing or drawings. Still it is very important along side the contact document.

Descriptive specifications:

It is an open type document which does not restrict on the brand or trader name of materials. Rather it clearly states the quality of the materials to be used. It does not follow any manufacturers' specification. But it declares the type of materials needed for the particular project.

Performance Specification:

It many be open or closed. Performance specification declares the end result that is desired from the work. It can use several test results to show the requirement of the performance. It is dependent on the means of validation. If any trader name or brand is used, then the specification will be considered as close. Thus it very important part of a tender document.
