In the demonstration portion of the video, you were asked to think about the image of a candle formed by a concave mirror. Suppose that the lower half of the mirror were covered with black tape. How would that affect the image?
The bottom half of the image would disappear.
The entire image would disappear.
The entire image would remain but would become dimmer.
The top half of the image would disappear.
The problem deals with the concept of image formation by a concave mirror. Since the size of the image is to be determine if half of the mirror is painted black.
The properties of the image formed by a concave mirror is that: the image formed by the concave mirror is always inverted and smaller than the object if the object is placed between the infinity and the focus. And the image formed by the every piece of the mirror will be of the same kind irrespective of the shape, just the brightness of the each image will be different and independent of the surface area of the broken mirror.
Irrespective of the lower or the upper half or any piece of the mirror The image formed by the every piece of the mirror will be of the same kind irrespective of the shape, just the brightness of the each image will be different and independent of the surface area of the broken mirror.
Since the lower half of the mirror is covered by the black tape but that won’t affect the size or shape of image. The image will be just less bright than that formed by a full mirror or any piece of the mirror.
Because image will be formed by the rays reflected from the upper half only. The semi-circular shape will not affect the shape of the image.
Ans:The entire image would remain but would become dimmer.
