Solutions

Expert Solution

Why are convenience samples not desirable?

A: Convenience samples are less desirable because of their inability to represent the entire population which leads to more problems .

What is the effect of increasing sample size on the cost of collecting data and the quality of the data collected?

A: the increase in sample size will certainly increase the cost of collecting data and also it will more likely to represent the population therefore more reliable results.

What are the differences and similarities between cluster and stratified sampling?

A: DIFFERENCES

  1. In cluster sampling population elements are selected in aggregates, in stratified sampling the population elements are selected individually from each stratum.
  2. In stratified sampling there is a homogeneity within the group, in cluster sampling the homogeneity is found between groups.
  3. Stratified sampling aims at improving precision and representation, unlike cluster sampling whose objective is to improve cost effectiveness and operational efficiency.

SIMILARITIES

In both techniques  the strata formed should also be distinctive and non-overlapping. By making sure each stratum is distinctive, the errors in results are drastically reduced.
