How do the significance level, power, effect size, and standard deviation influence the sample size?
Significance level :
As alpha ie level of significance goes up so does the probability of type 1 error should the null hypothesis in fact we true. The sample size n .As n increases so does the power of significance test increase .This is because sample size narrows the distribution of test statistics.
Power:
Increasing sample size makes the hypothesis test more sensitive more likely to reject the null hypothesis. When it is in fact false thus it increases the power of the test and the probability making a type 2 error smaller as sample size increase .
Effect Size :
This means that for a given effect size the significance level increase with sample size .Unlike the t test ,the effect size aims to estimate a population parameter and is not affected by the sample size .
Standard deviation:
As the sample size increases the standard deviation decrease .
As the sample size decreases the standard deviation increase.
