In: Civil Engineering
Environmental lapse rate = 0.1 degree C/100m upto 100 m altitude (surface temperature drop at nighttime).
Environmental lapse rate = -0.7 degree C/100m after 100 m altitude
The adiabatic lapse rate is based on moist air.
Find the atmospheric condition from the example below.
a) Mixed radiational inversion
b) Radiational inversion
c) Subsidentail inversion
d) Frontal inversion
e) Advective inversion
Will upvote, thanks in advance
Given atmospheric condition:-
As per the given atmospheric condition, the type of inversion will be radiational inversion.
In Radiational Inversion, during day time the sun heats the earth surface and air near it. In addition, during night time, the ground air near it cools down faster than the air present high up,due to radiation of thermal energy. As a result of the decrease in ground temperature, the lower region of air bulk loses its heat through conduction, convection and radiation.
As shown in the graph below, as altitude increases, the temperature inversion takes place between cool low level air and warm air above. Its called radiation inversion.
It is also called nocturnal inversion because it is a more frequent phenomenon during late night and early day hours. Also, in the atmospheric condition it is mentioned that surface temperature drops during night hours. Valleys and low lying areas are particularly observed to have this type of atmospheric condition.
Besides, we also know it as non-advection inversion because it happens in the static atmospheric conditions. Furthermore, up there is no horizontal or vertical movement of air.
So, the correct option is b)
