What characteristics of aluminium and mild steel make a difference in resilience and toughness?
- Considering chemical composition for each.
why Ultimate tensile strength and ductility are important factors
First you have to know about the definition of the Resilience and Toughness:-
Resilience is the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress.
Toughness is the ability of a material to absorb energy and plastically deform without fracturing.
So Aluminum is a very desirable metal because it is more malleable and elastic than steel. Aluminum can go places and create shapes that steel cannot, often forming deeper or more intricate spinnings. Especially for parts with deep and straight walls, aluminum is the material of choice.
Steel is a very tough and resilient metal but cannot generally be pushed to the same extreme dimensional limits as aluminum without cracking or ripping during the spinning process.
according to the chemical composotion of mild steel and aluminum, mild steel mainly consist carbon as ore and aluminium is generally found in the bauxite so the both have the ore that give them properties like ductility and yield strength so this two properties are important factor in selection of the alumnium and the mild steel.
steel has more ultimate tensile strength than the aluminum and also mild steel is more ductile than the aluminum.
if helps then give?.
thank you.
