What characteristics of protozoa make them resemble animals?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Protozoans are primitive prokaryotic organisms which still exist and flourish on earth. Many pieces of evidences are present which prove that protozoa resemble animals. Some of these evidences can be enlisted as below:

  1. Similar to animals, protozoans possess the ability to locomote and change their positions from one place to another.
  2. Protozoans are dependent upon external supply of food and cannot synthesize their food on their own like animals.
  3. Protozoans reproduce to give rise to offsprings similar to them like animals.
  4. Protozoans, either unicellular or multicellular, exist as a complete set of biomolecules and their inter-dependence thus suggesting that they themselves are a complete unit of life. This property resemble to animals.
  5. Protozoans also respond to external stimuli similar to animals.

Thus, these are some pieces of evidences suggesting the similarities of protozoans to animals.
