What is Mintzberg's managerial roles theory

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer) There are many roles a manager has within an organization. Henry Mintzberg describes ten specific managerial roles most commonly seen within organizations.

Managerial roles

Though every manager is different, Mintzberg remarked that everyone should practise and master each of these interpersonal, informational and ruling -making roles.

Interpersonal:

Figurehead. A figurehead is accountable for social, formal and legal matters. They affect their company in a professional way.

Leader. All managers must be leaders, conveying with, motivating and tutoring their team. Workers should be able to look to their manager for support and advice.

Liaison. Liaisons are accountable for networking outside of their company and relaying the crucial evidence.

Informational:

Monitor. A monitor seeks evidence within and outside of their company to evaluate their company's operations and identify issues that need to be addressed or changes that need to be made.

Disseminator. Disseminators should then relay useful advice internally to employees and delegate assignments accordingly.

Spokesperson. Managers should also broadcast advice externally, acting as a spokesperson for their brand.

Decision-making:

Entrepreneur. Acting as an entrepreneur, managers should inspire change and innovation. They should also establish and implement new ideas.

Disturbance-handler. Any external or internal issues or roadblocks should be dealt with by managers.

Resource-allocator. Managers must distribute and oversee various resources, from allocation to equipment.

Negotiator. The negotiator is accountable for participating and directing negotiations within their company.
