Henry Mintzberg developed managerial roles in late 1960s. These are the roles which a manager is expected to perform. These roles can be defined as the organized sets of behaviors identified with the position. All these roles in one form or another deal with people and their interpersonal relationships.
Three main category of Managerial Roles:
Interpersonal roles
Here, managers interact with people inside and outside their work units. The three interpersonal roles include figurehead, leader, and liaison activities.
Informational roles
Managers receive and communicate information with other people inside and outside the organization. The three Informational roles include monitor; disseminator, and spokesperson.
Decisional roles
Managers use information to make decisions to solve problems or take advantage of opportunities. The four decision-making roles are entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, and negotiator.
