why do Engineers use PIN connection support during calculations but does not use it in actual. What is the effect of this?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Engineers generally use PIN connection support during calculation. Because, with these type of connections they can easily solve the problems. And they can easily analyse the structures. Using equations of equilibrium, we can find out the components of horizontal and vertical forces. When an engineer use the pin connections during calculation, he can get to know about the resolving reactions ( Horizontal & Vertical). But when coming to the reality, he should use the fixed supports. With the fixed supports, the complete analysis of structures such as bridges and buildings can be done properly. To make the reactions put in equilibrium, engineers have to use the required and suitable supports. Following details will tell us about the pin connections.

1.And it is easy to calculate the support reactions with the pin connections.

2.For example, if an engineer is designing a bridge. That bridge is containing various connections at the ends and also individual connections.

3.To make the perfect analysis, we should calculate the reactions at the supports carefully.

4.For this activity, considerations of pin connections is a better option. So,they mostly prefer to chose the pin connections.

5. When coming to the construction, the structural engineers replace the pin connections. Because, these should not be used at all supports.

6.But, the load reactions at the supports and various connections should not be variate between the design and the original structure..

7.In the presentation of the design, we can make clear output by using pin connections.

8.If we use the pin connections, we can hide them in the design output.

9.We can easily express the horizontal and vertical reactions without getting confusion.

10. Pin connections are so delicate and precise as to be difficult to analyse the structures.

Pin connections are provided when hinged joints are required , where zero moments or free rotation is desired and horizontal and vertical movement are not desired. These connections can be designed according to their axial force only. In case when the end of a member must be free to rotate, a pinned connection is used. But we will make some arrangements in the structure. Because we cannot use that connections the actual structure. Then, simply the reactions will be changed abd these effects varies according to the actual type of connection.

To overcome these situations or problems, the designing engineer makes some assumptions. He put some instructions for the implementation of design in the filed. According to those instructions, construction should be done with accuracy by putting the entire structure in equilibrium condition. By developing the equilibrium condition in the structure, we can replace the connections with another types. Sometimes, it seems very critical to be solved. But engineer should be developed each and every joint with a proper care. These are the main effects the engineers generally face during the implementation of the structural designs.
