Khubilai khan belonged to the Yuan Dynasty and was the grandson of Ghengis khan.He conquered Southern Song dynasty in 1279 .He became the first mongol to rule China, He was born in 1215. He was the youngest son of Tolui and his mother was Sorkhotani Beki. In 1239 he was given 10,000 households in Hopei. In the province he instructed the mongol servants to collect taxes and other things . Soon these mongol servants were replaced by chinese officials . In 1251 the title of great khan was passed to Mongke . MOngke made Khublei viceroy of Northern China. In 1252 Khublia was ordered to conquer Yunnan. Khublei prepared for the war for almost three years and finally conquered Yunnan in 1256. Then after some time Mongke died and Khublei and Hulegu Established their own Kurlita . He was declared the great khan.This led to civil war which resulted in the surrender of Arik Boke in 1264. He made an effort to unify china and established his capital in Beijing and named his dynasty Yuan in1271.Song imperial family kept on surrendering in 1276 and the final blow came out song dynasty in 1279 and he became the first mongol emperor of china. His reign was very kind and benevolent .He made grand infrastructure which involved extension of the grand canal , improvement in the field of medicine and science .Paper currency was used .Trade expansion was done in his reign . In 1275 Marco Polo was appointed in various administrative and managerial posts .He died at the age of 79 in 1294 due to excess drinking and bad eating habits .
