Question 2
You have been asked to devise a psychological achievement test
(PAT) that will be
administered to students who select Nursing as their major course.
Describe the steps you
will take to ensure that psychological achievement test is a good
intelligence test
Achievement test measures the capacties and capabilities of the individuals. Waters stated that, achievement test can be a useful aid in daignosing the student's specific needs i.e. their strength and weakness. Achievement test gives knowledge about an individual by testing his/her abilities. Therefore, to make a good achievement test, following steps should be followed:
First, two questions should be kept in mind while consructing an achievement test: 1) What construct are you trying to measure? and 2) How are you going to measure that construct?
After deciding on what and how are we going to measure, we can follow these general steps for test construction:
1) Planning the test followed by designing the test and preparation of the blueprint. Here, we identfy the objectives and prepare a blueprint.
2) Making a preliminary draft, where we write the items. Items are then reviewed by the experts and edited further. After making the neccessary modification, the items are ready for a try out.
3) The third step is the try out stage, where we collect data from the individuals.
4) Then comes the item analysis stage, where using statistics we try to see whether the items are actuallly useful of not
5) Once item analysis is done, final draft is made ensuring that the items are arranged in the sequence of easy, average, difficult, easy and so on.
6) Establishing reliability and validity and writing norms. The test is then finally administered to a larger sample. Here, we establish the reliabilty and validity of the scale and write the norms (average score of the sample population).
