“The pope is surely a moral saint. For we were all moved to tears when we saw images of him washing the feet of prisoners, embracing victims of leprosy, and sharing meals with the homeless.”
Every leader should engage in acts of charity or helping in order to prove that they are worth it. These acts of washing the feet of prisoners, embracing victims of leprosy, and sharing meals with the homeless are just the events that would market their popularity. If the pope is the real head of the church and he does that as part of his mission, it should be considered as a model behaviour which everyone under him should follow but no other clergy does that in real life. Pope also engages in such acts depending on the occasion because washing the legs of the prisoners is an exact enacting of Jesus act of washing the legs of his disciples. Thus, in reality these acts are just the replications of what Jesus had done in the past, otherwise, the pope should have insisted on other clergies who live a sophisticated life which contradicts the Christian values.
