This is for AT&T. . What core competences make your organization unique or different from other organizations? What are the sources of the core competences? How difficult do you think it would be for other organizations to imitate these distinctive competences?
The core competencies are resources and opportunities that have
strategic advantages of the business. Modern management theory
states that businesses must identify, cultivate and use their core
competencies to be successful against competition.
The variety of principles that have emerged in recent years has led
job seekers to focus on their own core competencies to stand out
from the crowd. These positive traits can be briefly developed and
listed. Some of the core competencies include analytical, thinking,
and problem-solving skills.
Prahalad and Hamel wrote that core competencies can be identified
in three ways: providing access to broader market potential.
"Contribute significantly to the profits from the final product."
And "it must be difficult to emulate competitors."
In addition, the author declares, “The key competencies are
communication, participation and high commitment to work beyond the
boundaries of the organization. It includes all human levels and
functions.
To ensure long-term growth and success, an organization must
identify its core competencies and then invest in those areas,
focusing on resources on building and maintaining skills that
contribute to competencies.
Companies looking to develop their core competencies must
differentiate between those capabilities that they do well or be
able to provide competitive advantage and then develop them within
the strengths of the organization. They need to develop these
skills and strengths in a way that is unique to competitors and in
a way that values customers.
Some management experts argue that an organization should designate
or release areas outside of its core competencies, thus freeing up
additional resources to strengthen core competencies.
To help maintain its core competencies, a company must use them to
guide its strategic vision as well as its management priorities. A
company needs to focus on communicating its values to employees,
building a culture based on those capabilities, and applying
technology to support them.
