Discuss the case of the woman with akinetopsia. What does this case tell us about the importance of motion perception?
Akinetopsia is the condition in which the person suffers from blindness to motion. The person is unable to see the moving objects. Patients suffering from akinetopsia face problems in their daily life. One of the people suffering from akinetopsia explained the problems that she had difficulty while pouring tea or coffee. She added that for her the liquid seemed as if it was frozen and hence, she got confused that whether she should stop pouring or not. Such patients are also observed facing problems during conversations as the facial expressions and the lip movements were missing for them.
After analyzing the above case it can be noted that there are certain objects which are moving and helps in drawing attention towards it. it also helps in analyzing distance between various objects and to analyze the direction of the object. It helps in recognizing the actions and movements of the humans which helps in the daily life.
