Ans) Since due to the globalisation and increasing population the petrol and diesel used for running the vehicles are going to become less day by day. So, in order to preserve our environment and for sustainable development we are going for the alternative fuels and one such fuel is hydrogen fuels.
These vehicles are known as FCEV's(fuel cell electric vehicles). The hydrogen as a fuel cell produce electricity is used to drive the vehicle.During the vehicle design process, the power of the vehicle is defined by the size of the electric motor. This electric motor receives electric power from the fuel cell generated power and battery combination. that receive electric power from the appropriately sized fuel cell and battery combination. The amount of energy stored on board is determined by the size of the hydrogen fuel tank. The various parts of the hydrogen cars is as follows:
1)Battery (auxiliary type ): In hydrogen car or electric drive vehicle, this auxiliary battery provides electricity to start the car which is also known as primemover or initiator before the traction battery is engaged and also powers vehicle accessories.
2)Battery pack: This unit acts as a reservoir and it stores energy generated from regenerative braking and thus provides supplemental power to the electric traction motor.
3)DC/DC converter: The main function of this device is to convert higher-voltage DC power that comes from the traction battery pack to the lower-voltage DC power which is required to run vehicle accessories and to recharge the auxiliary battery.
4)Fuel cell stack: It is an assembly of individual membrane electrodes that use hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. So, an electrochemical process occurs in this stack for electricity generation.
5)Electric traction motor :It is used to drive wheels of the vehicle by consuming the power from the fuel cell and the traction battery pack . There are few other vehicles which use motor generators that perform both the drive and regeneration functions.
6)Fuel filler: As the name suggests filler, it is used to fill the tank via nozzle. This nozzle coming from a high-pressure dispenser is attached to the receptacle on the vehicle and hence it fills the tank.
7)Fuel tank (hydrogen): It stores hydrogen gas on board the vehicle until it's needed by the fuel cell.
8)Power electronics controller : It is used to manage the flow of electrical energy that is delivered by the fuel cell and the traction battery, therefore it controls the speed of the electric traction motor and the torque it produces.
9)Thermal system (cooling) : As heat is produced due to the transfer of energy and electricity so,this system maintains a proper operating temperature range of the fuel cell, electric motor, power electronics, and other components of the vehicle.
10)Transmission (electric): The transmission transfers mechanical power from the electric traction motor to drive the wheels.
A schematic diagram is shown labelling all the parts of the hydrogen car and it denotes the design of the car. So, in this hydrogen car can be designed.
