One mole of solid MgO occupies 22.37 mm on a side. Calculate the density of MgO ( in g/cm^3) ---Steps please

Solutions

Expert Solution

gram molar mass of MgO = 24+16   = 40g/mole

1 mole of solid MgO   = 40g

length                         = 22.37mm                                    [ 1mm = 0.1cm]

                                    = 22.37*0.1cm = 2.237cm

volume                      = length * length * length

                                      = 2.237cm*2.237cm*2.237cm = 11.194cm^3

The density                    = mass/volume

                                        = 40g/11.194cm^3

                                          = 3.57g/cm^3   >>>>answer
