how do you translate a mRNA into codons like 5' cta taa gca tgc ccc tat gag ggt 3'

Solutions

Expert Solution

mRNA sequence or messenger RNA sequence undergo a process called translation. The translate sequence codons represent amino acids.

In translation, the mRNA sequences bind to tRNA and complementary bases form from mRNA. This base pairs are in codon or triplet (3 base pair together form codon). And each codon represent one amino acid. More than one codon code one amino acid. This amino acids together with polypeptide chain form protein.

Eg: UAC and UAU code for tyrosine

Rules for complementary base pairing,

  • RNA- Guanine (G) always pair with the Cytosine (C) and Adenine (A) always pair with the Uracil (U)
  • Codons- triplet of the nucleotide which code for on amino acid
  • DNA to mRNA : complementary pairing takes place
  • mRNA to anticodon: complementary pairing takes place.

(Note: The given sequence is not codon because “Thymine or T” only present in DNA. In mRNA and tRNA “T” is replaced by “U or Uracil”.

Hope it will helpful to you. Thank you

All the best

You decide you are going to decipher codons of an unknown mRNA transcript.
You decide you are going to decipher codons of an unknown mRNA transcript. In a test tube you mix the unknown mRNA template, tRNA with all 20 amino acids, and a large concentration of ribosomal subunits. You end up producing 3 distinct polypeptides of poly- asp, poly-thr and poly-arg. What is the sequence of the unknown mRNA? Write the first 6 letters of the sequence, starting by the 5' end. DO NOT write the numbers, just the nucleotide letters. Answer:
