Victimization data are gathered from various sources. What are the strengths of official data, specifically that gathered in the Uniformed Crime Reports (UCR) and the National Crime Victim Survey (NCVS)?

Thousands of people are victim of various criminal activities . There are numerous domestic violence. Very few are known to us. However for good statistics we need the following points:

• The incident must be informed to the police and there is a clear record with the police.
• Sometimes people avoid police. But they take the help of the local authority or community leaders. In such case the incident should be recorded.
• In the hospitals there is also record of many victims. Though the case is police case, the authority takes rapid step and the record is also kept there.
• Besides, in the court log book we find the records of the victims.

The strength of the official data are:

• Name with detail address.
• Date and place of the incident with witness ( if possible )
• Nature of victim.
• Source of troubles
• Concerned persons and the namesbof the investigation officers.
• Steps take.
• Legal proceedings
• Signature of the victim.
