Discuss Employment Laws - choose either Equal Pay Act or Civil Rights Act of 1964 and provide commentary if these laws are working in todays society?
I choose Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Indeed Yes, The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is being followed today and is as relevant as it was on those days. This month, 66 years ago, the 1964 Civil Rights Act abolished racism of public spaces and outlawed discrimination on basis of color, nationality, faith, age or national origin. Leading up to the 1964 Act, African-Americans confronted enormous challenges permitted by law such as: employment discrimination, less access to good housing, disempowerment, and ongoing struggles to integrate public schools 10 years after Topeka's Brown v. Board of Education.Wide involvement with the Civil Rights Act and desegregation galvanized attempts toward school integration. Integration of the schools has never been more critical today. With the decision of the Supreme Court Fisher v. University of Texas, which legalized affirmative action, higher education agencies, among other entities, will review and strengthen recruitment processes and procedures to adequately promote and incorporate cultural , ethnic and socio-economic diversity. Early childhood education, elementary schools and secondary schools also play a role in ensuring diversity between teachers and leaders. All caring and concerned adults must lead the civil-rights movement today. In the work of ensuring that we live up to our founding principles of equality and the pursuit of opportunity there are no bystanders. Genetic code or zip-code should not predict or restrict access to opportunity. Nonetheless, educational incentives will be facilitated by cross-agency strategies and organizational activities contributing to healthy graduates, active people and prosperous societies around our country. Specific legislation and regulations will be allowed to expand exposure to secure and subsidized homes for children and families, and offer greater incentives for jobs for adults and young people.
