Expert Solution

Option- C "They lead to many serious measurement blunders."

The cut tape is marked in feet (or meter) along its full length, But the first & last foot is further subdivided into tenth & hundreds of foot (or tenth or hundreds of meter for meteric tape). This arrangement allow the surveyor to count fraction of feet during measurement. But each measurement involves mental calculation of substraction, special care & attention. so a little mistake can lead to some serious blunder in measurement.

In the "add" tape, tape is marked throughout in feet/meter. but the last foot is further subdivided into tenths & hundreds of meter/feet. Also an additional foot marked in tenths & hundreds of feet/meter is present just before ZERO. This arrangement allow the surveyor to count fraction of feet/meter during measurement. But each measurement involves mental calculation of addition, special care & attention. So here also a little mistake can lead to some serious blunder in measurement.
