Project Description
The project is about creating a dog shelter which will provide the best resources to take care of all kinds of canines. Many dogs all across New Jersey have been abused, strayed, and neglected and have no safe shelter.
While there are a lot of dog shelters, many are poorly managed and often dogs are euthanized due to a lack of resources and funding. Thus there is a need to create a dog shelter which will provide the best care for canines who are unwanted, injured, or sick. The desired outcome is to create a new dog shelter which will have enough funds to rehabilitate canines and provide a safe haven for them. The output is finding a location, getting funding, finding resources, and raising awareness to create a suitable dog shelter.
1. Stakeholder :
- Risk : Stakeholder pull-out - One of the current founders 'A' might relocate to another part of the country leaving a major gap in the project.
- Issue : A is a licensed Vet and has received a job offer from a location far from shelter site. This will leave the shelter without its usual access to a vet and will require an additional effort/cost to secure services from someone else.
2. Scope :
- Risk : Scope creep - The current plan is to house and care for dogs temporarily and eventually rehabilitate them to good homes. There can be some cases where rehabilitation or adoption/fostering is not possible due to medical reasons, this could leave the responsibility of long-term care with the shelter which it is currently not planning or prepared for.
- Issue : Some dogs might arrive un-rehabitable due to accidents, bad treatment, medical reasons and will need long-term care. The shelter might then have no choice but to take on the additional scope of housing the dog for its lifetime.
3. Schedule :
- Risk : Inability to manage timely rehabilitiation - Synchronising adoptions and fosters with rehabilitation timelines can be tricky.
- Issue : People looking to adopt might go to other shelters if dogs here are not ready when needed, this can lead to more dogs not getting adopted.
4. Resources :
- Risk : Current donors who have committed help might not be able to come through due to unforeseen circumstances
- Issue : Donors could move to more immediate requirements due to sudden spike in covid cases leading to usual donors not being able to provide resources when needed.
5. Cost :
- Risk : Current forecast of expenses might change due to unforeseen circumstances
- Issue : Due to pandemic prices of essentials can go up and lead to a budget crunch.
6. Communication :
- Risk : Communication channels to adopters/fosters/donors could get affected due to social distancing guidelines
- Issue : Not being able to do face-to-face interactions can lead to less effective communication resulting in disrupting operations
7. Risk :
- Risk : There is always risk when dealing with untrained animals and this can lead to unplanned disasters.
- Issue : Animals get into fights and end up injuring weaker members
8. Quality :
- Risk : Animals need to get quality care however since they cannot provide feedback, this will be tricky to control
- Issue : Bad quality care such as infections or malnutrition can only be caught after the fact.
9. Supply Chain :
- Risk : Food supply can be disrupted due to riots
- Issue : Lack of food for dogs
10. Conflict :
- Risk : Administrators have different ideas about rehabilitation and adoption.
- Issue : If administrators cannot agree on decisions, it could lead to delays and disruptions.
11. Governance :
- Risk : Legal and industry standards are not adopted/adoptable
- Issue : Licenses are dependent on the adoption of all legal statutes and could be lost due to non-conformance
12. Integration :
- Risk : The shelter needs to work with several diverse groups who are vendors, suppliers, supplementary services can be affected by changing priorities of the external parties
- Issue : The adoption agency has shut down due to a positive covid case leading to the integration between the shelter and the adopters being affected.
