Explain using several examples, what types of cases the Supreme Court of Erie County and the Western District of New York, United States District Court have Subject Matter Jurisdiction over?
The United States district courts are the trial courts of the federal court system. The distrcit courts hear all kinds of federal cases, civil and criminal. The jurisdiction of district courts are limited to
(a) Civil cases involving constitution, laws and treaties of the US.
(b) Civil / Criminal suits where the parties are from different states.
(c) Civil actions within the maritime jusrisdiction of the United States.
In addition, special units of federal court deals with the case of bankruptcy, A special trial court have power to deal with cases related to international trade and custom issues. Another special trial court has jurisdiction over most claims for money damages against the United States, disputes over federal contracts, cases of property acquisition by the government and many other types of cases.
Examples of these cases include
(a) Falseful acquisition of land of a company by the government.
(b) Civil dispute between a person residing in New York and the other in Texas.
(c) An aggrieved party challenging a constitutional clause.
