Responsibility and accountability are essential considerations
in trying to
have organizational and systemic ethics. Any area of society can
be
examined and discussed in this context. I want you to look at
higher
education—there are ethical issues for all the parties—students,
faculty,
administrators, trustees, “owners” (government or private), and the
system
of higher education itself. Discuss at least three difficult
issues:
a. Honesty in teaching and research
b. Allocation of resources—for example, budget, course
requirements, number of faculty, teaching loads
c. Purpose of university
d. Impact of sources of funding
e. Student admissions
f. Cost of education
g. Others of your choice.
Please remember to discuss the ETHICAL issues.
Honesty in teaching and research:
a) To have the complete knowledge of the subject they are teaching and providing complete and correct information to the students.
b) Giving equal opportunities to all the students and evaluating students. Special focus on the student having a weak base and who requires a special explanation of the topic.
c) To accept feedback and change according to it.
d) The researcher should use a legally acceptable method of the research
e) Plagiarism and data security should be kept in check
Allocation of resources—for example, budget, course requirements, number of faculty, teaching loads
a) An appropriate budget should be given to research, sports, extra-curricular activities, and skills management.
b) Resources should be spent in order to hire a healthy number of faculties with the desired level of education and to keep the student and faculty ratio in check
c) a Healthy number of work hours for the teachers must be formulated and they should be provided with a handsome salary and appropriate incentives.
Student admissions
a) All the students should be given equal opportunity in order to get admission
b) The admission procedure should be transparent and no favors should be given to anyone.
c) Privileges should be given to physically handicapped children
d) No unfair means should be tolerated in the admission procedure and if any culprit is found then the admission of the student must be canceled and the perpetrator of the crime must be given exemplary punishment.
