What are the 2 most important elements of cognitive therapy?
The two important elements of cognitive therapy are central belif/ schema and automatic thoughts. The central beliefs are those related to themselves, about the others around and of the world in which they live.
These beliefs can be either positive or negative in nature. Positive beliefs would be good for the individuals as it motivates and energises them for better living. For example, "I am very strong", " my friends are my strength" are such kind of positive beliefs. Negative beliefs are quite troublesome and it can demotivate and devalue an indivual as it is able to undermine an individual's self efficacy. Examples of such beliefs are " i am weak", "I am helpless",etc.. Automatic thoughts are thoughts which is being triggered suddenly onto the mind without the conscious awareness of an individual. The thoughts are not influential in nature, but the emotion related to the thoughts can evoke and effect the mood on individual.
