Leadership is the ways and means of motivating, helping or encouraging a group of people to deliver high level of performance in order to meet the common goal in alignment with the values of the organization.

Human resource management (HRM) is nothing but managing the human resources. It is the policies and practices that manages the people or human resource in the organization which includes recruiting, hiring, training, rewarding, performance appraisal and retaining.

The differences between human resource management and leadership are: -

  • The main functions performed by HRM are staffing, HR development, planning the compensation and benefits of people, providing safety and healthy work environment, maintaing employer and labor relation and HR research. The main functions performed by leader include motivating, supporting, guiding employees, lead by example, manage change, etc.
  • HRM focus on hiring best talents for the organization whereas leadership focus on enhancing the skills and knowledge of employees so that they can work efficiently and effectively for the organization.
