There are many social media websites where people communicate with one another for different reasons such as dating, making new friends or keeping in touch with existing ones. What is self disclosure and how does it function to develop initimacy in a relationship? What level of self disclosure do you feel is appropriate when communicating with someone via the internet? Discuss this as it relates to different types of internet sites and also within the online classroom. Give your opinion.

Self disclosure is revealing facts about ourselves and showing what is the real us . This isvery important for gaining trust of the other person which is the main base for a relation . Inorder to develop intimacy in a relationship we need to disclose ourselves to the other person with honesty. This gives space for the relation to develop into a strong one. But when it comes to internet and use of social networking sites we need to be cautious and should never disclose ourselves completely. Only the information which is needed is to be given and we must never share private information on any site of the internet as there is always a threat associated with internet. When we communicate with someone via internet we must not trust everything blindly and must be very careful.

When it comes to online classrooms we must only give our general details which are required for education. We must not deviate from education and give our personal details to anyone even if it is a professor . Internet is a gift when used correctly but a deathly trap if we fail to be cautious.
