Mary who is a 21 year old female comes into the Family Planning clinic today for a PAP test, which is her first.
1) Mary wants to know how the PAP test is preformed and if it will hurt?
2) Mary inquires if she should be preforming SBE? Please teach Mary how and when to preform SBE for a premenopausal women.
3) Mary states her mother is a breast cancer survivor and want to know when she should get her first mammogram?
1)tell Mary that Pap smear test is done in her doctors office or clinic and it will take around 10 to 20 mnth.during test she shoul lie on a table with her feet placed firmly in strips(lithotomy position).after giving the position doctor will insert an instrument which is a metal called speculum into her opening in private area inorder to open and widen the private area wall.This assist him to see your cervix.then he will use a sterile cotton swab to take the sample.This sample will be placed into a liquid substance in a small jar,and send it to a lab for further investigation.it doesn't hurt,but you may have a little pinch or a bit of pressure while inserting speculum or swab.
2)Breast self examination should be done towards the end of your menstrual period for premenopausal women.that is the time when hormonal changes have the least influence on breast tissues,and the breasts are the least tender.
Examine breast in shower::use circular motion to find out the geography of breasts.first time you may feel strange but when you continue you become capable to feel each breast so well.this will help to notice changes immediately.
Lying down ::you can feel your breast in a different position while you lying down.this will allow for a greater knowledge of the way your breast feel.
3)she is at the highest risk of breast cancer as her has family history of breast cancer.Thus ,she may need to be screened earlier and more often than other women.so,she should do mammogram every year starting to prevent the risk of this disease
