what do you see as the ethical issues related to customer data storage and use?

  • The ethical issue here is that companies can use the data to influence the customer choice and decision by using the data and framing policies accordingly. This is agains the spirit of fair play.
  • Another major issue here is the invasion in the personal life of the customers as companies can know where the person is going, what he is watching, what he wants to purchase, what he purchased, who he talk to and what not.

Do you think the issues you have identified are related only to online businesses or to all businesses?

The issues identified are largely linked to the online busines only likfe amazon, facebook and google. Offline business like walmart do not have the same resource as they do.

Should different types of organizations be required to store more or less data or should they all have the same set of rules for data storage?

All the companies should be given the same yardstik and rule book to store the information. Though brick and mortar business is till now not been under target but the policies for data storage for them too should be same. Customers should also be made aware that what information companies have of them often and given to change it without diluting their shopping or browsing experience.
