Discuss the impact that Amazon's decision will have on big box retailers such as Walmart and others. E-Bay has experienced some impact and Toys 'R Us has closed its store and liquidated its inventory. What strategies will the retailers nad other online merchants need to implement in order to remain competitive?

It is clear E-commerce has several advantages like

  • Convenience in delivery
  • Better aggregation
  • Less use of storage and retail space, saving a lot of cost
  • Providing retail front to their variety and giving an online to offline, hybrid mix
  • Discounted prices on bulk

But at the same time retailers have advantage of

  • A store front for better touch and feel
  • Better storage for perishables
  • More trust as user purchases after feeling and option of return easily

So the best way to tackle the ecommerce for the retailers would be by:

  • Focusing on limited stock and differentiating on those items
  • Have more perishables sold as those can never be delivered without losses by the ecommerce (without hybrid)
  • Strech the delivery end and provide shipping to the houses , so providing delivery to home and give the convenience of ecommerce and make them redundant
  • Also provide online store selection, without visits. This will make the competitive with the ecommerce players
