A team or any group of persons is as good and capable as its leader. Good leaders inspire and motivate those whom they lead.Simply put a good leader needs to possess certain leadership qualities , so as to enhance his team's performance, towards the set goals.
Characterisitics of good leader-ship
Communication ability:
A good leader must be able to communicate his ideas effectively to the team he leads.Clarity in thought & focus about the goals to be achieved & carrying along the team by frequent & open discussions are all part of a leader's ability.
Passion & commitment to the cause:
A leader should be ,oit ony, passionate about his team's goals ,but also stay committed & focused all the way through. He should himself be accountable for any deviations in the jointly-planned missions .
Positive & Innovative:
A leader should not only remian positive himself , but alos spread positivity amongst hisbteam members. And keep his eyes& ears open for new & innovative strategies , coming on its own to him or suggested by his team-mates----ie. be adaptable to different ideas.
Collaboraing with team members:
Frequent collaboration with team members ,in the form of meetings & discussions about various issues , & getting them to inter-act & be pro-active, will earn the goodwill of the every member of the team. This will also encourage & involve them ,in the final product.
Characterisitics of bad leader-ship
A bad leader is one who is self-centered & does not care much for etiquacy and one who does not possess any policy for being or not-being this way or that way.
Does not have the basic quality of integrity--ie. Not Standing steadfast to the ideals , he himself trumpeted .
Does not know,or not willing , to adapt to changing circumstances & bent on having his own way ,in everything , without lending a listening year.
Does not have any concrete vision for the future leading to stagnation , chaos & lack of progress .
A bad leader often shifts blame for wrong consequences to plans on something /somebody -else in the team ---but tries to take personal credit for positive turning points.Does not work as a team.
As there is good leadership and bad leadership, there certainly is good followership and bad followership
Leaders make /mar followers & the vice-versa is also perfectly true.
Moreover, a good follower has a very good probability of becoming even more good leader & also
a leader in one facet of life ,becomes a follower in other walks of life.
A good follower-ship
## possesses the ability to read the mind of his leader & his potential or the lack of it, to lead a team.
## is often diplomatic in solving issues both with his leader & capable of steering his peers to the team's goals.
## makes his leader's job easy , by interacting & aligning/ carrying along -- others in the team.
## lives up to his leader's expectations ,& courageous when it comes to dissenting with the leader for right causes, in the interest of the team's goals.
## Has the very same qualities admired in a leader --ie. Participative/inter-acting without dominating, able to carry through points to a crowd of people, namely the team members, capacity, competence, motivation & good intellect to critically analyse things
So a bad follwer ship
Mars/ fails the leadership also .
Nothing much can be achieved when the follwership is insincere & not very serious about the organisational growth or prospects
They do not even bother about hampering their own growth & wasting their potential & capabilities.
All they do ,is to counter-argue & find fault at every other plan , brought in by the team leader.
They like to stagnate things & gloat in revolting all the time. They create issues out of every non-issue, just for teh sake of it.
