Relate a personal example of someone doing the right and/or wrong thing in the workplace, especially if doing the right thing was difficult. How did they handle the experience? Is it ever right to do wrong? Explain your answer
One of the examples of an experience in my workplace where doing the wrong thing was right was when one of the clients mapped under me had bought a stock and was losing money. The client had bought 300 shares of a stock and according to the company regulations, the employees were not authorized to trade for clients without their permission. However, we could trade after informing the client and getting approval.
The clients mapped under each employee was the employee's responsibility. Therefore, there was a news about a stock which my client had purchased and was losing value at an alarming rate which forced most of the traders to sell that stock. I had to make sure the client doesn't lose more money so I tried to inform the client but there was no response. Since the news of the stock was clear, if I let the stock be, the client would have lost a huge investment and I decided to close the stock. I spoke to the client an hour later and told him that the stock price had falled 100 points and if I had waited he would have lost a huge amount of his investment. The client was pleased that he didn't lose money and thanked me for closing the stock.
Here in this scenario, trading unauthorized was wrong but it saved my client a huge sum and therefore, sometimes doing the wrong thing can also be right. The decision to sell the stock was not based on a guess but news from the market and factual, therefore taking responsibility for the client here was the right decision.
