What prevents the female body from rejecting the embryo/fetus, as this is a new tissue developing in her body that is genetically different from her own tissues?
Immune cells have a responsibility to attack the foreign antigen comes in the body and destroys it but in the embryo implantation this pathway is shut down or gets off as result immune doesn’t reaches to the implantation site to destroy the or harm the developing embryo.
During the pregnancy, the foreign antigen develops in the mother and comes direct contact to the maternal cells but immune response is failed to revoke the rejection which is typically occur in the organ transplantation.
Maternal immune tolerance towards fetus and placenta maintain the pregnancy, if immune response counters leads to miscarriage and spontaneous abortion.
