In this course, we have talked about four uses of empowerment and participation. We said they are part of delegation, used to overcome resistance to change, used to overcome resistance to control, and used for motivation. Now, explain why empowerment and participation work in all of these areas.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Part of delegation- Empowerment and participation play an integral role in delegation because delegation refers to empowering people with responsibilities and the freedom to take decisions. This improves the participation level of all employees and increases the morale of the employees.

Used to overcome resistance to change- Empower creativity and innovation among the teams to overcome the resistance to change. This would make the employees remain positive and supportive and increases their participation in implementing the change.

Used to overcome resistance to control- In order to overcome the resistance to control, it is pertinent to create effective control measures such as Management By Objectives (MBO) and also encourage participation of employees in management. Empowering employees with accountability would help in smooth implementation of the change.

Used for motivation- An organization should empower their employees in the way they perform for excellent service delivery to provide good customer experience. This acts as a catalyst for employee involvement and motivation.

Q- We have discussed the topic “Rationale of Regulations “ in which we talked about the reasons for having regulations in a given country. In the discussion for fatigue up to this point we have talked about the damaging effect of the number of cycles of loading but we have not discussed about frequency (i.e. how often these loading cycles occur). Which class of materials do you think might be sensitive to the frequency of loading? Provide two physical mechanisms that may affect fatigue life (at least indirectly).

Describe the difference between discounting and interest, referring to the way we have talked about it in class. Specifically use this example: A company is looking to purchase an item worth 10k today. The same item can be purchased 3 years later for 10k. Why is the second option more desirable, and how much more desirable is it if your cost of capital is 5%?

We have talked about many plant structures, roots, stems, reproductive structures - and leaves. Leaves are essential for plants because they are the site of photosynthesis and food production. But there is always a tension between photosynthesis and water loss versus preventing water loss. How do the structures and tissues of the leaves of Gymnosperms and Angiosperms differ? (Remember there are more than one type of Angiosperm leaf). How are they similar? How do the structures and adaption of leaves...

We have talked in class about second order differential equations. These equations often arise in applicationsof Newtons second law of motion. For example, supposeyis the displacement of a moving object with massm. Its reasonable to think of two types of time-independent forces acting on the object. One type - suchas gravity - depends only on positiony. The second type - such as atmospheric resistance or friction -may depend on position and velocityy′. (Forces that depend on velocity are called damping...

In class we talked about the effects of cigarette smoking on birthweight. We defined a model E ( O | C = c ) = (β0)^1 + ((β1)^1 x c) where O is birthweight in ounces and C is cigarettes smoked per day. Suppose instead we used the model E(L|P =p)=(β0)^2 +((β1)^2 x p) where L is birthweight in pounds and P is packs of cigarettes smoked per day (there are 20 cigarettes in a pack). What is the relationship...
