Do you think that Narcissistic Personality Disorder can be a disruptive condition in one’s life? Please provide three concrete examples that support a negative disruption in a person’s life and three concrete examples that demonstrate a positive impact in a person’s life.
People with narcissistic personlaity disorder tend to be boastful and selfish. Narcissistic personality disorder is one of the personality disorder in which people shows the following characteristics:
1) They have inflated self- esteem and a gradiose sense of their own importance.
2) They need excessive amount of attention and admiration.
3) They have troubled relationships and also lack empathy for others.
4) However their inflated self-esteem is very fragile and they are easily agitated even with the slightest amount of criticism.
5) They try to take advantage of others in order to get what they want.
6) They are envious of others and also believes that others are envious of them.
It's a mental condition and can affect one's life.
Negative impact of narcissistic personality disorder in one's life:
1) People with narcissistic personality disorder have difficulty in forming close relationship as they are always suspicious of the other person. Since they lack empathy, it is difficult for them to maintain a close relationship.
2) People with this personality disorder are generally unhappy and disappointed because they need excessive amount of attention and admiration.
3) Since, such people always think about themselves and tend to be selfish, people around them does not enjoy.
4) They need power at all cost, even at the cost of hurting the other person. They tend to exploit others without any remorse.
However, healthy narcissism can have positive impact as well. In healthy narcissism there is a positive sense of self that alligns with the greater good. Healthy naccissism can also be considered as normal narcissism. Some benefits of healthy narcissism are:
1) They have strong self regard.
2) They have empathy for others and recognizes their need. So, people around them enjoy.
3) Their self concept is authentic.
4) They have the courage to accept the criticism positively while maintaining positive self regard.
5) They may enjoy power but do not exploit others.
6) They have healthy relationships. Their concern for their partner is real and genuine. They do not exploit or devalue others.
7) They have high self-esteem and self-confidence that alligns with the reality.
