Who was Grameen (background and education) and what did he actually do (where did it all begin...) for the women of least developed countries? How has the foundation grown and what have been the impacts?
Service to the needy people is considered as doing service to God. This concept was a mind blowing thought is the heart beat of every social workers who contributed their support in every least developing country. Such noble thought was made few eminent social workers to solve for the problems of the poor people in the developing country. One among the social worker was Mr. Muhammed Yunus.
Muhammed Yunus was born in 28 June, 1940 in Bangladesh. He belong to Jewellery Business family. His father name is Hazi Dula Mia Shoudagar and Sufia Khatun. He finished graduation in Chittagong College in 1960. He was a social entrepreneur and economists. He was the first person to start a unique concept of micro credit and micro finance. He served as the founding board member of Grameen Foundation and also founded the Grammen Bank. Grameen Bank started the scheme of providing loans to needy people who want to develop their economic status. It makes targets to help poor entrepreneurs especially to the women who wants to fulfill their basic requirements of the life.
In 1976, He visited Jobra village. There he discovered the poor status of the people who cannot able to run their social and the basic living. Then he planned to make general and beneficial scheme to provide affordable loans to the poor women society in the poorly developed village. He appreciated the women empowerment and believed that micro-credit will help the women entrepreneurs to lead the quality life. As the first step, He lent 27$ to the 42 women in the Jobra Village and the loan was given in the form of micro-credit.
Gradually the set of women entrepreneurs who started to develop their economic status. This created 28,000 members to join this group. This was supported by Janata Bank jointly with the activities of Yunus. Then the Bank was named as Grameen Bank. Many rural projects were sanctioned in this time. Many underutilized sources of Fishing Ponds and deep tube wells were reconstructed and used by many farmers both genders. The Grameen Bank diversified its loan disbursement to many profit oriented projects like Telecommunication sectors. Through its vast diversification, 2,60,000 members got enormous number of benefits. At last in order to improve the agricultural production Grameen Agricultural Foundation was formed.
Grameen Foundation advanced disbursed its loan benefits to women as the major share of 94%. This micro-credit loan also helped the poor women entrepreneurs even in the developed countries like USA. In the 2006, He was awarded the Nobel Prize for helping women in the developing countries. As the Bangladesh is the muslim country, Women are not given such importance in all fields like education and business. But the efforts and continued support of Grameen Foundation, many women have broken the barriers of unwanted ethics and made them to shine along with the Men community in order to earn sufficient income for the betterment of their life.
