Social protest is a form of political expression that seeks to bring about social or political change by influencing the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of the public or the policies of an organization or institution.Social protest movements play such an important role in bringing about social change in political, religious, educational, health, corporate, government, and other institutional arenas. Ultimately, movements are about real people making choices about how to use their time, talents, and resources.
Understanding social movements requires an analysis of the battle over interests and ideas. All movements face opposition from political and/or corporate elites, grassroots counter-movements, or both. Movements win victories when they can take advantage of their opposition’s weaknesses.
Movements are usually more successful when they can persuade a significant slice of the public that their cause is just and should be supported. Thus, they have to engage in the battle of ideas to influence public opinion.
The change I want to see is public utilities for women in my country along with cleaniness around in the country. Proper management,resources and finances are needed.For this purpose,I did join an organization who has taken up this work and meet the government for help.They also hold talks,and even rallies to meet people on the road and draw their attention towards this issue.Make people realise the importance of toilets and cleaniness. Public rallies which are peaceful in nature are organized and we can see small changes happening in rural areas because of this. And slowly it is becoming into a nationwide movement as well where people are coming out from all walks of life to take up this issu and work towards change.
