Describe how the internal structure of the ovary differs from the internal structure of the testis and how these organs differ in reproductive potential.
Ovary
This is the part of the female reproductive system. On each side of the fellopian tube, ovaries are present. It si considered as the female gonads. It is present on the lateral wall of the uterus called ovarian fossa. It is infront of the ureter and the internal illiac artery bonded by the external illiac arteryOvaries have an outer cortex and an inner medulla and is surrounded by capsules.Capsule is made up of dense connective tissues and is known as tunica albuginea. Inside the ovaries egg cells are developed and mature in the fluid filled follicles .These developing egg cells are called oocytes.inside the follicles there are different ranges of immature egg cells.Whe oocyte finishes the maturation inside the ovary ,pituitary gland secretes the hormonecalled leutinizing hormone and it stimulates the the rupture of follicles and results in the release of oocytes.Ovaries secrete the hormone progesterone and estrogen. This hormone maintains the appearance of secondary sex characters and is responsible for the maintenancxe of reproductive organs.Reproductive potential of women decreases will age. There willl be a decrease in the number of oocytes and the quality will also diminish by increasing the age.Ageing also effects the ability to support implantation and growth of embryo.
Testes
It is the male gonad. It is homologous to the ovary.Male has two testicle .these testicles are found inside the sac crotum. The testes are covered by tunica albuginea.Inside the testes seminiferous s tubules are present . These tubules are lined with a layer of germ cells. These germcells are developed into sperm cells, also known as spermatozoa or male gamates.Inside the seminiferous tubules leydig cells are present and they secrete testosterone.Testosterone is the male sex hormone important for all the secondary sex characters.Testosterone is the controlled by the anterior pituitary leutinizing hormone. The sperm moves into the vasdeferns and expelled out through urethral opening followed by ejaculation .The reproductive potential will decrease accrding to the age .Diabetes like diseases will affect the potential capacity of male sex hormones and also the reproductve capacity of the sperm.
