Below I have defined and discussed various elements of
creative culture:
- Creative culture is the one where investment is made into
technologists and technology. It is important not to ignore the
infrastructure and resources which provides access and aid to all
the creative ideas.
- At a people level, another important element of a creative
culture is an environment where ideas can come from across the
levels of hierarchy.
- The creativity culture celebrated people & their abilities
and work. The success should be appreciated and hence people feel
more motivated to exercise the same.
- The environment has collaboration and clear communication as
elements.
- The creative culture allows time for the project to deliver
results.
- The organisation in such culture sets the tone that risk-taking
is allowed as it is an inherent part of building the creative
culture.
- Team members should be encouraged to grow by learning from
others & take projects that give them new skills &
competencies.
Here are the examples & practises which leader can
adopt to make team culture creative:
- It is important to have open meetings, the decision-making
process should be transparent.
- The overall collaboration aspect needs to be promoted to create
a creative culture.
- If the bottom ideas are given equal value and respect then it
creates empowerment to offer more ideas & try different
things.
- The creative team culture should allow all team members to open
up their minds and also have the rights to refuse or dislike others
ideas. No negative consequence should be there for
disagreements.
- The openness aspect makes the organisation mindset focused on
creativity and growth.
- The team culture should be built around hard work &
delivering high-quality products & services.
The leaders must foster & support innovation. The wide
experiences & diversity must be accepted with
open-mindedness.
Organisation example -
- Google has introduced innovation and creativity as a
part of its core culture. Since it has highly skilled
employees and keeps investing in education & research it has
been effective in bringing the culture of innovation.
- It has challenged the conventional thinking style and work
ethics as followed in other companies.
- Google has been able to integrate, develop and
re-develop the internal & external skills to build a
diverse and highly talented workforce who can adapt to the changing
environment.
- It is a fast workplace. It doesn't believe in delaying problems
or challenges and addresses them as quickly as possible.
- Management has shown greater trust in its people. An example of
assigning several hundred employees for the Google+ project is
evident.
- The organisational culture of transparency and openness has
helped to develop trust and faith in its employees.
- Google has focused every year to remove unnecessary processes
and bureaucratic features to ensure freedom, faster & effective
communication and collaboration across various departments.
