In: Operations Management
think of somebody who has authority over you, either at work, school or in another organization to which you belong( you can reference a family member). which do you and others most often overlook when trying to manage up? why? how could this approach to managing up be improved? are any steps missing? explain? manage up table: prepare your message, plan your delivery and tactics, deliver, follow up.
My supervisor has a direct authority over my me as he guides my efforts to produce desired results. The most critical part which I overlook when trying to manage up is the expectation part of supervisor or quality of output. While I always try hard and push my whole potential to achieve the targets set by supervisor over a course of time, I forget or overlook the expectations that the supervisor has set for me with respect to the quality conforming to which the targets should be achieved which as per takes place due to inadequate communication.
Therefore to improve this approach of managing up, proper and effective communication should be established between supervisor and employee so that expectation and goals are known and understood. Communication will help in getting to know more about what actually the supervisor wants and how to carry out that process.
Yes there is one step missing in the following :
Preparing message, Communicating with supervision, clearing expectations, Planning delivery and tactics, Delivering, Following up.
