Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans a:

During spermatogenesis, there are several million sperms can be produced per day i.e. about 1500 sperms per second. By the end of a full sperm production cycle, spermatogenesis can regenerate upto 8 billion sperm. During oogenesis, most women release an egg cell every cycle is called as ovulation.

Ans b:

A single spermatogonium produces four haploid sperm cells and a single oogonium produces four haploid cells which further form single egg cells.

Ans c:

  • When meiosis begins, the spermatogenesis results to produce four sperm cells called primary spermatocyte and then spermatid produced at the end of meiosis. When it reaches lumen of tubule and grows a flagellum, it is called a sperm cell.
  • When meiosis begins, the oogenesis results to produce primary and secondary oocyte prior to the formation of the ovum, which is a mature female gamete.

And d:

Spermatogenesis occurs in testes while oogenesis occurs inside the ovary. The major part of oogenesis occurs inside the ovary and last few stages occurs in oviduct.
