MI or myocardial infarction is commonly known as heart attack. We have to define a hypothesis in which we are studying the effect of gender on the age of heart attack patients. In short, we are testing a hypothesis in which we have to see whether the average age of heart attack patients is varying by Gender. The null and alternative hypothesis in this particular scenario can be defined as follows:

Null hypothesis, H₀:

i.e.

The average age of MI patients is the same for both Male and Females patients.

Alternative hypothesis, H₁:

i.e.

The average age of MI patients is different for Male and Female patients.

The terminology used:

represents the average age of female MI patients
