here is my Null Hypothesis and Alternative Hypothesis:

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant difference in the housing expenses between married and unmarried households.

Alternative Hypothesis: There is a significant difference in the housing expenses between married and unmarried households.

what are the type I and type II errors?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Okay first we have to understand what Type I and Type II errors are:

TYPE I ERROR

A type I error is the rejection of a true null hypothesis

Concluding that 'there is a significant difference in the housing expenses between married and unmarried households' would constitute a Type I error when in reality the null hypothesis "There is no significant difference in the housing expenses between married and unmarried households" is true.

TYPE II ERROR

A type II error is the non-rejection of a false null hypothesis

Concluding that "There is no significant difference in the housing expenses between married and unmarried households" would constitute a type II error when in reality the alternative hypothesis "'there is a significant difference in the housing expenses between married and unmarried households" is true.
