A ) Dementia of the Alzheimers Disease involves progressive changes in memory & thinking Patterns
Pattern of performance | Encoding & Retrieval |
1) Disorientation : Give orientation to the patient in simple sentence.
2 ) Recent memory loss : Reminded the patient to do Hygienic measures.
3 ) Difficulty completing familiar tasks: Keep assisting if needed .
4 ) Problem with abstract thinking : Simplify the task .eg : Replace saree to night gown.
5 ) Problem in communication : Avoid asking confusing or unnecessary questions.
6 ) Mood change: Music therapy, it provides more relaxed mood.
Other encoding & retrieval measures
- Avoid giving too many changes
- Thank the person or Express appreciation when something is done.
- Do not hurry the person.
- special aids : eg : mugs with handle
B ) Frontal lobe damage assessment:
Memory loss
Impaired moral judgment
Aggression
Declining intelligence
Impaired language skills
Loss of empathic reasoning
Encoding & retrieval:
- Remaining calm & supportive if patient is agitated
- Provide frequent cues & reminders to reorient the patient
- maintain a consistent environment
- keep request for the patient simple
- protect the patient from injury by providing safe , structured environment.
- encouraging patients independence.
