MAJOR VESSELS OF THE BODY
Unless otherwise indicated, the veins have the same naming of the arteries and are paired with the artery. Most of the exceptions are found with superficial veins in the limbs, or veins in the thorax.
Vessels of the Thorax & Neck:
Aorta
Common Carotid A.
Brachiocephalic V.
• Arch of Aorta
• Subclavian A & V
• Superior Vena Cava
• Brachiocephalic Trunk • External Jugular V.
• Inferior Vena Cava
1. Focus on the difference between the Brachiocephalic TRUNK and the Brachiocephalic VEIN
2. What side of the body does the brachiocephalic trunk supply?
Vessels of the Upper Limb:
Axillary • Brachial
Ulnar • Cephalic V.
Median Cubital V.
• Radial
• Basilic V.
What are the 2 superficial veins of the upper limb that drain the skin and do not have paired arteries?
Is the Cephalic Vein found on the medial or lateral side of the arm?
Vessels of the Lower Limb:
Common Iliac •
Femoral •
Great Saphenous V. •
Internal Iliac • External Iliac Popliteal • Dorsal Venous Arch Small Saphenous V.
What are the 2 superficial veins of the lower limb that drain the skin and do not have paired arteries?
Is the Great Saphenous Vein found on the medial or lateral side of the leg?
PLEASE ANSWR ALL OF THE ABOVE.
1. ANSWER: Brachiocephalic trunk is the first and largest branch of the aortic arch that supplies neck, head and right arm.
Brachiocephalic vein is the vein that returns the oxygen depleted blood from upper limb, neck and head back to the heart. The two brachiocephalic veins merge together with azygous vein, which carries deoxygenated blood from the ribs to form the ssuperior vena cava.
2. ANSWER: Brachiocephalic trunk supplies the neck, head and right upper limb.
1. ANSWER: The two prominent veins of upper kimb are the basilic vein and cephalic vein. But the hand is drained by both superficial and deep veins.
2. ANSWER: Cephalic vein is the superficial vein draining the upper limb. It runs in the lateral side of the arm and jt runs upto the shoulder.
1. ANSWER: The main superficial veins that drain the lower limb ae the greater saphenous and short saphenous veins.
2. ANSWER: Hreat saphenous vein is the most medial structure in the femoral triangle. Lateral to it is the femoral artery.
