A 2014 study examined how college students feel about solitude. The reserachers gave the randomly selected volunteers in the study a choice between sitting in solitude for 15 minutes or volunatrily giving themselves an electrical shock. Of the 18 men in the study, 12 gave themselves an electrical shock, while 6 of the 24 women in study gave themselves an elecrical shock. A: What is the population of interest for this study?
B: Find a 95% confidence interval for the women in this study.
C: Find a 95% confidence interval for the men in this study. Clearly interpret this interval.
D: Using only the intervals you found and not the samples, does it appear that there is a difference in the feelings about solitude between men and women? Clearly explain why
A: Researcher wants to know how college students feel about solitude so population will be all college students in 2014.
B:
C:
Interpretation: We are 95% confident that true population proportion of men gave themselves an electrical shock lie the interval (0.0767, 0.4233).
D:
Since confidence intervals of part b and part c do not overlap so there is evidence to conclude that there is a difference in the feelings about solitude between men and women.
